- To help pay for my education, I worked as a brush cutter, a ditch digger, a truck driver, a drugstore clerk, a Santa Claus, and a short order cook. My education gave me a career in academia where I was a college professor for about twenty five years, which was followed by seven nasty years as a Dean (Humanities Division). I taught for several years at state universities, but most of my work was in the community college system of Tennessee.
