- LessonPortal.com is an idea which started in early 2007. There are many "find me a private lesson teacher near me" web sites out there, but none had enough teachers in their area to really help anyone. My main complaint with any of them was "Why can't it be easier to find a teacher?". Well here's my answer to that problem; almost every (not all) sites charge an annual or a one time "listing fee" which may or may not generate a lead for the teacher. This, in turn, keeps fewer teachers or instructors from registering in the first place. My goal is to see the largest database of private instuctors ever on one site! That's why, I believe, it has to be 100% free for all basic contact and website information. However, "Premium Memberships" will be featured on the home page, may list up to 15 categories, have directions to their studio automatically generated for the student via Google maps, upload MP3 samples of their work, even a "YouTube" linked video of a recent performance. A nominal fee will be charged for these additional features to offset additional bandwidth costs. But the basic listing is still 100% FREE. There are also ads, but they are there to cover the cost of hosting the site and the domain name.
