Keratomileusis

A precursor to modern day LASIK surgery, Keratomileusis refers to any corneal procedure that uses subtraction of corneal tissue to affect refractive error. Without modern technology such as Excimer Lasers, deep corneal tissue would be removed by hand and frozen to facilitate the reshaping process. Once the correct shape was achieved(using a [[CryoLathe), the tissue would be repositioned in the patient's cornea to heal. Success rates were significantly lower than more modern modes of Refractive Surgery.
