Keratotomy
Keratotomy is a procedure used to correct near-sightedness using a series of surgical incisions into the cornea. In the commonly administered Radial Keratotomy, these incisions are made evenly around the cornea. The incisions cause the central portion of the cornea to flatten, which moves the focal point of the eye closer to the retina, and improves distance vision. Keratotomy is also used to correct astigmatism, only the incisions are made parallel to the cornea's edge along its circumference, rather than radially. Other vision disorders treated by leratotomy include myopia and hyperopia.
Keratotomy can result in irregularities in the epithelial layer, which increase the risk of infection. The surgery can also increase the scattering of light in the eye, particularly when the surgery required deep incisions and large epithelial plugs (cells adjacent to the incision which have been lost). This can result in an increase in perceptions of flare and spots of light across one's vision, especially while night-time driving.
Keratotomy Procedures
KeratotomyTechiques include Flap procedures,Photoablation procedures,Corneal incision procedures.Radial Keratotomy(RK),AstigmaticKeratotomy(AK) and PhotoRefractiveKerectomy PRK are keratotomy procedures.Amongst which LASIK is the most recent in use due to its accuracy and precisions.
PAI-LASIK is new research being done to LASIK Surgery to remove high degrees of RefractiveErrors.
The Latest Revolutionary Keratoconus Treatment is C3R
Corneal Collagen Crosslinking With RIBOFLAVIN C3R This procedure has been proven to strengthen the weak corneal structure by increasing collagen crosslinking, which are the natural “anchors” within the cornea. These anchors are responsible for preventing the cornea from bulging out and becoming steep and irregular, consequence of advanced Keratoconus. C3R causes the collagen fibrils to thicken, stiffen, and crosslink & reattach to each other, making the cornea stronger and more stable & halting the progression of the disease.

Another Latest Remarkable Keratotomy with combined ALT and DLK
Autologous limbal grafting combined with Deep Lamellor KeratoplastyDLK simultaneously can restore a normal and stable ocular surface, create clear central cornea, and remarkably enhance visual acuity after severe chemical or thermal burns.
