Description
I grew up on the south side of Chicago listening to Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Lena Horne, Ramsey Lewis and other jazz greats. My father loved jazz and other music including Stevie Wonder, Cat Stevens, Marvin Gaye, Barry White and Robert Flack so that had a major influence on my musical choices. When I got old enough to play the stereo, my favorites were Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life", anything by Rufus and Chaka, and a healthy dose of Richard Pryor. I even listened to rock when we lived in West Virginia. The first single I purchased was Natalie Cole's "Sorry" which I sang for a talent show at 16. My first album was George Benson's "Give Me The Night" in 1980 which gave me my first exposure to Patti Austin whom I would later grow to love. Though my first love is jazz, I also enjoy gospel, R&B, and house music. I will listen to most anything at least once. If it grabs me, maybe a couple more times.
I have always wanted to write music reviews and provide music information. After a lot of love and encouragement from friends, this website is the result. Psssst....my family did not know that I could write...LOL!!! This is my ever-changing but entertaining creative outlet. I always want to keep it fun and stay in love with the music. Who knows? One day I might become a real music reviewer or at least get to be a really great piano player. The sky is the limit so stop by often and enjoy the music!
