This page is about me, Hugh Brecher. It's really a "vanity" page, just as HughBrecher.com is a "vanity" website. They both also serve as an abbreviated autobiography, not of my childhood (boring) but my working life since the advent of computers and, especially the internet and websites. About Hugh Brecher
That's me. I don't look much different now other than my beard and hair are both more grey; makes sense, the picture is from 1999, and was the very last time that I got to wear my tux. I like sweatshirts better, but you shouldn't wear a sweatshirt to a wedding UNLESS you give a very generous gift!I've been earning my living doing each of the following enterprises on the web for over 10 years now:
- WebSite Promotion, now usually called "SEO" (Search Engine Optimization". The work consists of designing a website to be "search engine friendly" so that it gets good listings and traffic from them. Good traffic often converts into good sales. One of my early clients, 4Trademark.com, is still with me since April, 1998.
- By 2000 my wife, Elaine, and I had developed a fascination and love of Celtic jewelry as well as Celtic culture, history, myth,blessings, and so forth. This soon led to the creation of our own Celtic jewelry business. I used my SEO skills for our own new website in September of 2000 and we have been popular Celtic jewelers ever since. - My educational background consists of a B.A. in Psychology at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, and an M.A. in Psycholgy, also at Hofstra. When? Back in the stone age, 3 years before dirt was invented. Actually, the BA was in 1961 and the MA was 1963.
- My special interest has always been Motivational Psycholgy and this, of course, led to being hired by a Madison Avenue Advertising Agency. The company was known as "D-F-S", "Dancer, Fitzgerald, Sample". It was interesting and EXTREMELY commercial, but the shopping around Madison avenue in NYC was great.

What's New With Hugh?
Something very exciting, for me anyhow.
For more than 10 years I have been fascinated with search engines. My favorite is Google. The primary aspect of my fascination has been the concept of relevance. My interest motivated me to analyze and experiment with relevance with the goal of learning as much as I could about the concept so that I could use it productively and, if successful, teach it to others.
Not too long ago I conducted an experiment to test my theory regarding using my tentative understanding to earn high organic (natural) listings on Google. Organic and natural relate to EARNED listings, they are not PPC, Pay Per Click listings, the "sponsored listings" that are positioned at the tops, sides and sometimes bottoms of search pages. Anyone with money can BUY top listings, but not everyone can EARN top listings by satisfying Google's desire for very relevant web pages.
In my experiment I thought up a new domain name and registered it with GoDaddy.com. The domain is "RelevantArticles.org', if you wish you can visit the site here:
It didn't take long for Google to add the site to their index. When they did I was blown out of my chair. It was listed on the FIRST page in position #1. The notation at the top of the search page showed that there were over 15 Million other pages using the terms "relevant articles"; those other listings were, in a real sense, my competitors for this phrase. After some more time passed I found that MSN, LIVE, and Yahoo had added the site to their databases also. As you may have guessed the results were also very satisfying. On Yahoo my site made it to Page 1, #1 with about 295 Million pages competing. MSN and LIVE were also displaying my site on page, but about half way down, but with about 55 Million competing pages.
Can you imagine how gratified I felt? My studies and experiments proved that my ideas about relevance were workable, they could be demonstrated in the real world. For weeks I rarely spoke about anything else. My wife, Elaine and my buddy, Wayne, got on my case and were relentless in asking me to write a book about it.
I gave in to their pressure and wrote...not a book, but a manual, a small monograph that others could read and use as a handbook with the goal of improving their listings on the search engines and, hopefull, increase the earnings from their websites.
Being a lifelong Capitalist I created everything needed to put printed copies of the manual up for sale on a new website. The new website provides many more details about relevance and how to buy a printed copy of this mini-book. There is even a PayPal link on the site where anyone can buy my manual for the introductory price of $19.95 + $3.95 shipping & handling. Considering the commercial value of my manual the price is a genuine bargain, it really is.
