- ean Siebenthal's artwork is imbued with the mystery and enchantment of the American Southwest. She works in various media, but favors oil painting. Her style is largely that of photo-realism, but with a difference. There is a deeper, more profound element to her painting that hints at an otherness of time and place just beneath the surface rendering. Hers is a supra-realism of artistic presentation that lures the viewer into a non-ordinary way of seeing and feeling. She has studied with painters Dorothy McCray, Cecil Howard, and Tom Holt. Celebrated photo-realist painter John Baeder, noting the excitement of her images, has said, If she is self-taught, she is brilliant. If not, she's brilliant. Jean works out of her Hidden Dragon Studio situated high among the pinon pines and junipers several miles north of Silver City, New Mexico, adjoining the Gila National Forest.
