Description
General Biomass Company was founded in Illinois in 1998 to develop and promote biomass technologies, with an emphasis on the conversion of cellulosic biomass to ethanol as a substitute for gasoline. Our current R&D efforts focus on biotechnology for the production and utilization of cellulase enzymes for fuel ethanol production.
We are especially interested in ways to use lower cost biomass feedstocks such as waste paper fibers, corn stover, switchgrass, and wood for fuel ethanol and solid fuel production. We offer consulting services in the areas of biomass processing and cellulosic ethanol production. Please contact us with your needs at
We are proud to be a member of the American Coalition for Ethanol , the Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization and the Renewable Energy Action Project (REAP).
We believe that the biomass industry in general, and cellulosic ethanol production in particular, offer major growth opportunities over the next 5 to 10 years and beyond. Development and commercialization of these technologies can significantly reduce net carbon emissions in the transportation sector, reduce U.S. dependence on imported oil, promote rural development, and provide opportunities to export technology and components. We welcome contacts who share these interests and would like to help us achieve these goals.
