- fiftythings had its genesis during a typical morning commute down Interstate 280 from San Francisco to Palo Alto in 1998. Looking over at the second growth redwood trees on the west side of the freeway and wondering what it had all looked like before the logging and the damming of the coastal creek that has since become a reservoir -- an idea blossomed -- what kinds of things should we be saving as we enter the new millennium? The Internet was growing in influence and it seemed the perfect forum to pose the question.
