Description
The concept for Enchanted Ceiling was inspired by J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series (which I am addicted to). In the stories, the ceiling of the great hall at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is enchanted to reflect the weather outside the castle. I imagined a site where you could enter your zip code, and the site would read your local weather conditions and adapt the look of the site to look like the sky above you. A few things helped me develop the idea further.
One of those things (and not the least of which) was that I spend all day programming already. The programming problem is really interesting, but I have enough interesting programming problems at work. I also realized that the site would not be much more than a curiosity: you enter your zip, look at the screen, then look out your window, and the screen and sky look more or less the same. Big woop. And the thing that tipped the scales was discovering another like-minded website: the Mirror Project.
Then I realized there are a lot of sites that I respect, and which I go back to all the time. They are sites like A Life Uncommon, explodingdog, 1000 Journals Project, 20 Things, {fray}, k10k, and of course the Mirror Project. The thing that brings me back to these is the community that has grown around them, and with this site, I hope to be able to give back something of what I get from those sites.
