The Championship Gaming Series (CGS) was formed in May 2006 by DIRECTV and IGN Entertainment (a unit of Fox Interactive Media) with Mountain Dew, Best Buy and Microsoft Xbox as Founding Partners. Our goal is to revolutionize video game competition by treating the games in the same manner as traditional sports and the players as professional athletes. We intend to accomplish this goal by giving instant payouts (no more waiting gamers!), having consistently large prize purses across all tournaments and by giving video game competitions massive media coverage across mainstream TV and online leveraging the global media assets of News Corporation (NYSE: NWS).

The CGS will launch as a league starting 2007; however, in 2006, we will broadcast 3 television events: Championship Gaming Invitational, the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) Winter Finals and an event that will be announced shortly.
