Description

GU has been representing standard setting and promotional consortia since 1988, when it created 88open Consortium Ltd. for a founding group of companies that included Motorola and Data General. 88open was formed to encourage rapid deployment of interoperable computer hardware systems based on the Motorola 88000 RISC chip and its operating system, as well as software able to plug and play on 88000 based systems. 88open pursued an ambitious program of software and hardware specification development, test suite creation, and certification testing. At its peak, 88open had members on five continents and a staff of over 30.

Not long afterwards, GU was retained by Hewlett-Packard and twelve other companies to help create Object Management Group, which eventually became the largest software consortium in the world. Since then, GU has represented more than 60 consortia, whose founders include most of the world's largest technology companies. These founders include IBM, Microsoft, Intel, Motorola, Eastman Kodak, Nokia, DoCoMo, Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, American Express, Visa, Mastercard, and many others.

In addition to providing the full range of legal services in forming, counseling and representing its consortium clients, GU also provides extensive consulting services in the following areas, among others:
