There are so many reasons I look forward to Summer, whether it's catching some fun outdoors, a trip out to the beach or hitting the road with a car full of cool new music to listen to, the summer always seems full of promise. June has busted out a huge collection of new alternative choices from Sonic Youth, Frank Black, The Black Keys, Peepin Tom, Art Brut, Tool, Built To Spill, Regina Spektor, Golden Smog, Johnny Cash, Camera Obscura, Mojave 3, and Zero 7 are just a few of the reasons I had to put up 2 more lists--of hot & cool summer picks!
Joan Jett and the "Songbirds of Summer"
Joan Jett returned to the stage in Brooklyn the other night, at a sold-out show at Southpaw, and she laced into her old hits as if she had just left her first band the Runaways last week and was beginning a solo tour in support of "Bad Reputation", instead of looking back across quarter-century to her primal, punk-rock past. Catch up to her, time-traveling across the country this summer on the appropriately named "Warped Tour."
But if you just want to travel by way of iPod this summer, there are plenty of artists ready to come to you. I've put together a list of some of my favorite "Songbirds," alt-chicks who'll be flying all over "americana-land" over the next couple of months with fresh new music for you to download.
