How to change additional contact info

Hi, I just updated the business phone number which was an old one on your site, and see that the contact email is also wrong, but I can't find the way to change that- when I go to edit, the email address doesn't show up there.

Hi, the email is protected with tags, the old ones say "graphic" and the new ones say "email". Let me know if that makes sense. Best, MarkDilley

Remove my domains please! :(

Hello. I found my domains indexed in this wiki.. but I don't wish to have my contact information listed (my home address, email and etc -- I was really shocked to see this) could you please remove this info? If possible, I would not like my domains here at all though.

My domains that I found here are seiyausagi.net and himeko.org

Thanks in advance..

I've scrubbed the contact information from those two names. Let me know if they're ok now - RayKing

request e-mail address; remove permamnently w/o opt-out page

Isn't this amazing?! You have an easy way to add/change pages, but not remove? As someone already pointed out elsewhere, you are scrapers, who impose their Creative Commons license on content created by someone else. How about checking the site's copyright, license and terms of use? Mine says "...no portion can be included without written permission."

The text snippet and thumbnail are used under fair use and intended to help identify the site.
Wrong! Taking 98% of the page to include in the page you are "creating" has nothing to do with fair use. It has to do with business model aka YouTube, let us just "take it and claim as our own" and they will come--with lawsuits or otherwise.
Your interpretation of fair use is laughable. One the points is that you do not harm the site. How about diverting traffic to your site based on the site keyword search so that you can build your own traffic in order to sell advertising? See example below.
Not to be argumentative, but we don't take anywhere near 98% of website content, and text snippets used to describe a site and thumbnails are clearly fair use. Our intention is to create a stub which people can then edit to make a much more complete article. There are many examples of this being done in a very positive manner -- just look at some of the features sites. To your second point, blogs (with advertising) routinely write about other websites and search engines find those articles just as well. Why shouldn't search engines show third party information?

And no, you are not Google, because you include much more than meta-tags, the purpose of which is description of published content for public use. An no, you are no search engine, because you do not obey robots.txt instructions. If you had, no content for most sites, including mine, would ever have appeared on your site to begin with. Please publish e-mail address to submit permanent removal requests and for someone to serve you with a DMCA notice, instead of requests for the _lame_ opted-out page, which still includes the name of the site.

AboutUs does respect robots.txt and never claimed to be Google.
Wrong again! Your supposed "bot" apparently took the page at:
"... This page was last modified 19:15, 19 June 2006."
We had a bot that worked on this issue. User:WikiPruneBot. I was a little surprised that it was only functioning for a short time. Discussions with our development team suggest that it will be easy to get back up and running. So while you are correct that our initial scrape didn't follow robots.txt, we saw our mistake and fixed it and are working on fixing it retroactively. MarkDilley
"All content is available under the terms of the GFDL and/or the CC By-SA License. (See Copyrights for details.)"
My robots.txt file had 'user-agent: *' banned long before then. I wrote bot in quotes, because it makes me wonder why it managed to exclude the footer with my copyright information. So, to rehash, AboutUs included my page in their site and relicensed it under their own terms while totally ignoring mine. Peculiar!
If you have a page which you would like us to clean of any content from your site, please just let us know which one it is and we would be happy to clean it of information, fair use or not. June 19th was very early on for us and it is possible that was our mistake. If so, my apologies.
The DMCA information requested is here. -- RayKing
Thank you! Now how about adding it as a permanent link on your footer?
I think it's pretty easy to find from the links that are already on the bottom of the page, but we'll consider it when we next modify that section.
I placed the navigation box at the top, instead of the bottom, of the pages. MarkDilley
Also, for all of you who wonder why AboutUs information about _your_ site has to compete with _your version about your site_ in Google's searches for your site, here is a Google's removal page _where it may involve DMCA_ Google's DMCA page. If AboutUs doubt their page will compete with your own, guess how it will appear in Google? "YourWebSiteName About Us".
AboutUs is our name, but that said, if you have an alternate suggestion, we're open to hearing it. I doubt this discussion will turn your thinking around, but hopefully it provides you with a clearer understanding of our site and our thinking -- RayKing

Piracy sites

I'm wondering how to react to the piracy sites that turn up here as elsewhere. I'm specifically talking about sites that sell MP3s illegally (not hard to spot as they claim to sell "legal MP3s" as albums for about $3). Knowing that they are patently illegal, what is the policy on Aboutus.org?

M

People should feel free to add their thoughts about a site so long as it's true and done in a constructive manner. So in the example above it would be fine to add something like: "This site sells albums in MP3 format for $3, leading me to believe that they are pirating music illegally". Or if it is documented at a credible source, then add an external link. -- RayKing
Also, I think it would be good to do it in the section Community Reviews MarkDilley

Thanks gents.

Proper Listing

I am the webmaster for Forest View Hospital, a 62-bed psychiatric hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We are not a Cheap Guide as your website states and second you have our business address listed under Cheap Guide. Please adjust this immediately.

ForestView.com is a cheap guide.

ForestViewHospital.com is our website with our address located in Grand Rapids.

Please double check this information before you post it and possibly harm a company's reputation.

Thank you.

Glad that you edited the information that was not correct. Was your site originally ForestView.com before it became a ParkingLot?

Delete any info about our web site

Please delete any mention of our web site Alterama.com. We are the victims of a libel campaign from a disgruntled former employee. You are responsible for the information that you dissaminate and we reserve all our legal rights.

I made your page not contain any information that was computer generated. I added the other information to a "Community Review" section. Let us know if you have any quesitons. MarkDilley

What you call information is inaccurate, libelous and if you provide this information to the you are liable. I guess that you should have some appropriate legal advice. Meanwhile we don't want our site to appear in your "community Review" or anywhere related to your web site.

Merging Two Domains?

Is there a way to merge two pages together? I noticed our old website (.org) domain has the majority of our information, but AboutUs also has our (.com) domain as well.

Is there a way to merge the two or remove the .org domain page completely? (or can it be done simply with a reference to the .com page?) We're now known under our .com address.

Thanks! http://FrogBlogger.info

An easy way to do that is to place a Redirect on the old page, assuming that you still own the domain. If you don't then placeing a link to the new domian would be more appropriate in the "Additional Information" section. Let me know if you have any thoughts on that. Best, MarkDilley

delete our entry and use the bot to populate

I can not seem to find how to do this on the site. I would like the bot to index our site... OhioInjuryLaw.com

I tried to fill in the information but I think the bot would do a better job .. .then i can change the settings if i think it needs it. i dont know what to do so if you could help, that would be GREEEAT.

Re: BadAttitudes.com

You have our site on your site, which is all to the good, I guess. But instead of a description of the site, some spammer (I guess, again) has filled it up with laudatory stuff about James Inhofe, the embarrassment that Oklahoma has sent to the U.S. Senate. I am reluctant to concede that Inhofe is even a member of my own species, let alone that he has any connection to my site. I don't know anything about Wiki, or about your enterprise, and so I don't quite know what to do. Can you remove this Inhofe crap or remove my domain name? If I furnish you with an actual description of my actual site, will you put it up in place of this spew from Inhofe? Or what?

Hi, this is an open edit wiki. So that means you can edit yourself. Certainly if you would like to email me the text, I can edit for you. Best, MarkDilley

Wrong Information!

After checking my stats for our web site The-Wedding-Planners.com, I came across a link to your web site. The information you have posted concerning our web site it wrong. I don't know where you got your information concerning who to contact for our business but it's completely wrong, nor do I like the fact you are publishing our sites information pertaing to our domain name and when it expires and offering others to place a bid on it when it does. Remove our WHOIS info promptly.

Carolyn Hornickel

The-Wedding-Planners.com
Hello Carolyn, this is an open edit wiki - which means you can edit that information to make it correct. I will go ahead and remove it. Also, that wiki page was created today 15-Apr-2007. Let me know if you have questions. Best, MarkDilley

MEDIAPERU.COM ganged by russian fed

There are some russians that are changing the real adresses, maybe with scam purpouses, please check this out. I have changed my website adress to the right one but in the upper part still appears the RUSSIANS FEDERATION SPAM.

Done - MarkDilley

Take it off, please!

I really don't mind having my old entries and whatnot listed here from rancid-petals.net even though I don't own it anymore - what I'm not happy with is having my address and phone number displayed. That's personal information that was only available for a 30 day period as I transferred a domain that was bought for me to a registrar that would hide that info - all in vain evidently because here it is! Please please take this information off. I can understand having info like this for business websites but that's so far from the kind of site I run - a personal blog. I don't want my info floating around out there =\

Done, MarkDilley

I want off your site

How can we contact you without having the message viewed by everyone? Please take my website info off this site. I don't even feel comfortable leaving which address to take off since it may or may not be viewed by anyone who visits this page.

Fixing a Capilization Error in the domain.

On the page http://www.aboutus.org/TunenAmi.com - The A should be lowercase I have searched but can not find a way to fix it. The name Tunenami is derived from Tune (in this case song) and Nami (Japaneses for wave) but looks close to Tsunami so we left it as one word.

If you could fix or teach me how to fix that would be mighty friendly.

Thanks.

Hi, directions are at FixName - let me know if that works. Best, MarkDilley

Stolen content + Copyright and Trademark infringements

Hello,

Our company, Tingo Tanca, has existed since 1980 and has had a running website since 1998, at http://www.tanca.com/

As can readily be see in the Source of our front page, there are a number of index keywords in use, including our company name and the company name "Swarovski". A check at the Way Back Machine (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php) will show that all these keywords have been in use at least since January 1999.

By accident, we have come across the following Google Search results:

http://www.google.dk/search?num=50&hl=da&q=blykrystal+swarovski&btnG=S%C3%B8g&meta=

whereby it appears very clearly that a company by the name of Stenbutikken.dk (located in Bagsværd, Denmark, under the ownership of a Mads P. S. Trans) has taken our keywords in order to attract traffic to their site through Aboutus.org (http://www.aboutus.org/Stenbutikken.dk).

We would like to state that:

1. We have had no dealings with that company other than that they received a temporary password to access our price-list on February 14th, 2005. We were until now not aware of their presence in the Internet.

2. Tingo Tanca has very specific policies regarding the copyright and use of our photographic and text material. As stated on our site: all our photographic and text material is exclusively reserved for the use of our active customers.

3. The list of keywords on Aboutus.org's Stenbutikken.dk entry include our company name, the name Swarovski, and such words as "blykrystal" (normally spelt in two words, but used by us as one-word aggregate) which are not public domain words.

4. It should be noted that Stenbutikken.dk does not deal with Swarovski items nor with "blykrystal" as we do. Neither do they deal with items made of leather, a keyword which appears among ours in all four languages. This can be verified using either Stenbutikken.dk's own onsite search function, or any search engine such as AllTheWeb or Google in conjunction with that particular domain.

5. It is rather evident that bad intent was involved, as the array of our keywords (in four different languages, only three of which are in use on the Stenbutikken.dk site) has been shuffled before being uploaded to Aboutus.org's site.

Our normal procedure would be to have our lawyers address the issue of this infringement, as well as inform Swarovski of the infringement of their rights.

However, we are concerned that this may cause undue trouble for Aboutus.org, an endeavour which, as the rest of the Wikimedia project, we support wholeheartedly (as a matter of fact, our company has recently made a donation to Wikimedia).

We hope that you will be able to resolve this issue without unnecessary delay.

Regards,

Michel Tavir (owner) TINGO TANCA Denmark

  • Hello, let me first say that we have nothing to do with Stenbutikken.dk or wikimedia. We meerly list Stenbutikken.dk). on our Wiki; keywords as far as I know cannot be copyrighted in the United States; but, they may be in your country , since the servers that host AboutUs are in the United States we follow the United States laws on copyright. Since we display none of the pictures they have supposedly stole from you we are also not liable for any of that. If you have specific problems about what is displayed on that page feel free tocontact us; but, please contact them about anything displayed on their page. !Simon | talk 15:08, 19 April 2007 (PDT)
  • I'm sorry, I did see a couple of keywords that were your company's name and have removed those. --Simon | talk 15:08, 19 April 2007 (PDT)

Can't figure out how to change URL

Hi there,

I notice you have a link to our old website (thank you) - are you able to update it to the new one? Or how would I?

The old address is www.maclennanperformance.com and now it is www.mapc.co.nz

Thanks

Surprised

I was surprised to have come across about.org and to find my personal email address publicly listed for anyone to copy and spam. I am still trying fully understand what this service is wanting to achieve and at what expense. Not intended as a complain, but simply a concern over content appearing that I did not choose to put up into the site. Seems a WebCrawler is pulling starter information into the site. Am I correct and how can remove my personal email address from such public view?

Hope to receive a reply soon.

Thank You

Fair Use

Concern comments left on ErBeck-Ancestry.com regarding copyright, fair use, etc.

I have come across my websites info page here and it has been copied in its entirety. Not a segment, or excerpt. Whover edited it has blatantly copied my entire page apparently from what i read in popular webmaster forums , possibly putting me in danger of a duplicate content filter. Of course you have a right to list any site, but cease publishing this copyrighted material or reduce it to a level i would consider fair use.

Thanks
Jim

It seem that there is now nothing on the ErBeck-Ancestry.com page other than our discussion -- or am I missing something? -- RayKing

It has nothing to do with ErBeck-Ancestry.com I do not know where that comes from or why it appears in the comment i made, thought i opened a new post. Anyways, i am again requesting to make the necessary changes regarding fair use. Jim Atom Age Media (TM)

Jim, you left your messages about fair use on the WikiPage ErBeck-Ancestry.com. That appears to not be the WikiPage that you wanted fixed. I think you may have wanted AtomAgeMedia.com fixed. I went ahead and did that. Please let me know if it is still not what you meant. Also please see our Common Concerns page for a possible explaination. Also, if you could clarify that ErBeck-Ancestry.com is or isn't a domain that you hold. Best, MarkDilley

I can confirm i have nothing to do with erbeck, i must have been rushing and not realized i had done that. Thanks for your response.

Capitalization

Hi, I'm the owner of Wintallo.com. I am just asking you to change the spelling of my website on AboutUs.org. It's spelled "WinTallo.com" and the "T" shouldn't be capitalized. Thanks!

Looks like you figured out how to do it, which is great!

I'm removing my post since I don't even want it listed here.

I've gone ahead and removed the description on that page. -- Chris

Please remove my domain!

I was horrified to discover my domain, BeverlyFisher.com, on your site. You listed my name and personal address, and I'm not even sure how you got it -- my domain is privately registered. To my even greater horror, I saw this information has been on the site for almost a year. I aquired a stalker last November, and I wonder if this site is how he found me.

I went in and deleted the information, but it is still there in the history.

If you cannot remove my domain, please, please remove all contact information from the page as soon as humanly possible.

Beverly, I will go ahead and remove the history for you. I wonder if you always had your domian privately registered? If not then we may have gotten it through organizations that have all public info. If you have always had it privately registered, please contact me. Best, MarkDilley

Please remove this one too : Mtpo.org. Publishing personal datas without authorisation is forbidden in Europe. Thanks.

I removed the history on that one as well. Are you familiar with whois data [2] - it is public. Let me know what your thoughts are. Best, MarkDilley
The data itself may be public accessible through whois, but it is illegal to re-publish the data in the way aboutus does (at least concerning german .DE-domains. Please contact the Denic about the specific rules).

Compatability of Wikia and AboutUs.org

I have submitted the following to the Wikia Help Desk.

WWW Does Not Work for Wikias

http://electoralreform.wikia.com (this works) http://www.electoralreform.wikia.com (this does not work)

I would not normally worry about this but I want to add this Wikia to AboutUs.org a Wiki for websites and subdomans. I have created the page here and the page name is corect but the large link at the top does not work because AboutUs places a "WWW" in the address automatically.

As Wikia and AboutUs.org are both Wiki projects it would be good to get compatibility. John Cross 14:20, 29 April 2007 (UTC) please reply on my talk page (User:John Cross)
