Description
Back in 1905, a Greek man came over to America with some experience in candy making. Eager to learn more, he visited Stephen F. Whitman, founder of Whitman Chocolates in Philadelphia. He also visited with Milton Hershey, founder of Hershey Chocolates.
His visits were successful. With no collateral and barely able to speak the English language, he received financing from Mr. Whitman and Mr. Hershey for the sum of $500.00 each. With this money, he was able to open a candy store in Bangor, PA.
The city of Bangor was selected on the advice of both Mr. Whitman and Mr. Hershey. There were no candy stores in Bangor at the time.
