Up selling is a sales strategy or tactics where the sales person convinces the customer or the client to buy allied (higher valued) products (add-ons/ up-grades) and thus increase sales. For instance, in a fast-food joint when one orders for a burger, then sales boy across the counter asks whether one would also want French Fries and beverage - in an effort to sale more snacks.
Cross selling is a similar sales strategy to sale complimentary products, such as the waiter asking if one would also care to have salad with the main course. Thus, increasing the restaurant’s volume of business and at the same time adds value to the service provided as well as ensures greater customer satisfaction.
