Category:Scissor Lift Table
Scissor Lift Tables are widely used in manufacturing industry. They generally lift large weights through relatively small distances. The platform size often dictates the maximum distance the lift table can rise through, some times this is called stroke or travel.
Scissor lifts are also called platform lifts, power-lifts and lifting tables. In Europe there is a guideline standard called EN 1570:1999 'Safety requirements for lifting tables'. There is a helpful guide to the major parts of this standard on the Powerlifts website - see www.powerlifts.com. Another good website with plenty of pictures is www.gruse.com.
Power-lifts are also often used for vehicle loading, pallet handling, lifting wheelchairs, coil and sheet material feeding.
As with many products the quality of Lift Tables vary tremendously. When considering a supplier make sure you have very accurately described in writing the nature and frequency of operation to your supplier. Many units are made of box section steel armsets, remember this can be more prone to early failure through metal fatigue and corrosion if the unit is being built to a price rather than to perform a job! Take care to specify good quality bearings, they are important and not expensive. 20 years experience of buying scissor lifts has taught me to make sure you are talking to an expert supplier.
When they carry people they are also called MEWPs - Mobile Elevating Work Platforms. These are covered by different standards to EN1570.
