[iTel Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd][1] located in Durban South Africa proudly announces that it's decisions to service the SME market with innovative yet simple to understand products and services, continues to pay off. Telecommunications experts keeping an eye on global developments reminds us of the trends and encourages participation in cutting edge technologies. This is an exciting world we live in and developments come fast and furious. Wherever you look, Telco's are installing the latest Fiber cabling systems and wireless technology. Sadly, it will take a good few years before the real benefit of these will filter through to the SME market. I am not for one moment suggesting that we close our eyes to these great developments but I would however caution to invest in these before it is a stable and COMPETATIVE environment. It is a bit like having the latest vehicle that runs on some form of gas, but living a good 1000 miles away from the closest station that supplies the gas. What is however happening is that current equipment is being redesigned to facilitate all the nice features that the ultimate gadgets will be offering ! Who ever thought that a standard analogue PABX will be able to do all the great stuff offered in the latest IP PBX equipment like Asterisk etc? (And that at a fraction of the cost). Yes, Least Cost Routing via the Internet sounds great but, any company that has taken this route will tell you how the voice quality has deteriorated on cell calls. The old trusted Premicell is still the best way to save on cellular calls ! and.... once the Telkom line has been damaged or stolen, the Premicell continues working ! There are however some technologies that has made immediate sense in deploying lately. Take for instance the ever so popular VPN. This method of setting up a network over ADSL works just fine untill the connection to the DynDNS server is lost. (This is an external server that keeps track of the changing IP addresses of the ADSL routers at each terminating point.) Enter a great product for inter branch networking... the new WAN (Wide Area Network) that uses the SAIX MPLS network over ADSL. All of a sudden static IP's are included, a secure Realm created and the bandwidth cannot be shared with 49 other users ( Let me explain... ADSL users can find themselves contending for bandwidth on ADSL. Telkom reserves the right to share one line with 50 users 1 thus this is called a contention ratio of 50:1. On the new WAN it becomes one user to one line... thus: 1:1 contention) Now that's a big deal. And the best of all is that compared to other solutions it is stupidly cheap! Think about a 64K Diginet costing about R3,000 per month per branch and requiring equipment of about R6,000 per branch, now compare this to: equipment of R700 and a monthly fee of R714 pm but.... no 64Kbps but 512Kbps !! - it's a no brainer and as it becomes known, it is becoming the best thing since sliced bread. iTel will always keep close to developments and conservatively advise our clients. The reader is invited to call on us for any type of ICT inquiry and we will do our best to provide sensible advise.! http://www.itelsa.co.za
