Boston Network Users Group

Description

The group, formerly known as The Greater Boston Area Netware Users Group, was founded in December of 1986 and is run entirely by volunteers. BNUG has a membership base of approximately 1500, of whom several hundred subscribe to our e-mail list. We have operated out of a number of locations over the years, spending many years out at Proteon's offices in Westborough. We also met and operated a lab at Harvard University for several years in the mid '90s. Presently, we hold our general meetings at Mt Ida College in Newton, MA. Our board meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month. Please check our home page for the location of our next meeting.

Our President Emeritus, Glenn Fund, ran the group from its inception through 1995, seeing us from our earliest days as a dedicated NetWare-only group to our broadened attention to networking issues of all sorts. Josh Turiel then served as President from 1995 until 1998, as we started focusing on education as our mission. Under current (and, we hope, long-term!) President Andrew Daitch, we've put a new emphasis on bringing in engaging, challenging speakers and, as he puts it, "lots of FREE STUFF!".

We sponsor monthly meetings on a wide variety of topics, and we've put on a number of special events over the years including our LAN Ahoy! cruise, our Anniversary Meeting in December, and the Pub Crawl and User Lab (that's two separate events in case you're wondering) during the Networks Expo show. We have also sponsored other events and parties over the years. We like to have an involvement with local events, so if you know of any upcoming networking related shows or events, let us know!
