当連盟は当時の「全国実業団体育連盟柔道部会」（現「全日本実業柔道連盟」）の「全国各地区に実業団の連盟を結成し基盤強化を目指す方針」（昭和34年7月）を受け、丸善石油（当時）を中心とする近畿地区企業に勤務する柔道人が奔走し、昭和35年春「近畿実業団柔道連盟」として結成されました。 昭和35年4月17日、読売新聞社の後援を得て第1回大会を「読売新聞杯争奪近畿実業団柔道大会」として丸善石油学院体育館（箕面市）に於いて開催しました。 翌36年、地域を岐阜県以西の西日本全域に拡大すると同時に、当時の池田首相から総理大臣杯が贈られたことから「総理大臣杯争奪西日本実業団対抗柔道大会」と改称しました（昭和57年「総理大臣杯争奪西日本実業柔道団体対抗大会」と改称）。爾来、東京オリンピックのプレオリンピック行事のため見送った昭和38年を除き、毎年開催しています。 read more
