What AboutUs is
AboutUs publishes a factual record for websites — what a site appears to do, how much of the web references it, how many people visit it, and the state of its public infrastructure. Records are assembled from public sources and from checks we run ourselves, and each states when it was last checked.
What our records are not
A record is not a verdict, a credit rating, a fraud finding, or advice. A low score is not an accusation and a high score is not an endorsement. We report signals and say where each came from; deciding what to do with that is yours.
Scores are estimates built from incomplete data. Where we do not have enough evidence we say so rather than guessing — “not enough signals yet” means exactly that, and should not be read as a negative finding.
We provide the site as it is, without warranties. We are not liable for decisions made on the basis of a record, to the extent the law allows us to say so.
Other people’s websites
Every record on AboutUs describes a website that someone else runs. We do not operate those sites, we do not control what they do, and we cannot see what happens to you on them. Listing a site, linking to it, or reporting that one of our checks passed is not a recommendation to use it.
Anything you do on another site — buying something, sending money, sharing personal details, downloading a file, signing up — is between you and that site. AboutUs is not a party to it. If a site turns out to be fraudulent, unsafe, or simply not what you hoped, your dispute is with that site, not with us.
By using AboutUs you agree that we are not responsible for any loss or harm that comes from your dealings with another website, including one you found or judged through our records, and that you will not hold us liable for it. If your use of another site leads to a claim against AboutUs, you agree to cover the costs and losses that claim causes us. Some rights cannot be signed away by agreement; nothing on this page touches those.
If a record about you is wrong
Tell us and we will fix it. You do not need to threaten us, and you do not need a lawyer. You can propose a correction on any record, or claim the record by proving control of the domain and correct it yourself. Corrections to matters of fact are free and always will be.
If you dispute something we have published about how your company responded to an enquiry, we will publish your response alongside it. See methodology/responsiveness.
Once you have verified control of your domain, you can also post a short, dated response next to any specific fact on your profile or report (“Owner says”). The fact itself does not change and your response does not affect Authority or Safety scoring. Owner responses are the owner’s own words; AboutUs doesn’t verify them, and we may hide or remove one that breaks these terms.
Paid AboutUs Watch
The Watch offer for new subscriptions is $4.99 USD per website per month, plus applicable tax. You review the total at checkout before confirming payment, including the currency if checkout offers a local-currency price. A subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel. Any discount and its duration are shown at checkout; existing subscriptions keep the billing details shown in your account.
Cancel before your next renewal through owner billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period: paid monitoring continues until then and ends when the subscription ends. An unpaid renewal does not extend the paid monitoring period. You can still read and export retained history while you remain the verified owner. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not itself refund the current period. Pausing monitoring or turning off Watch emails does not cancel your subscription. Your free verified profile and factual corrections remain available after cancellation.
Watch records observed website changes at the intervals described on our plans page. Monitoring starts after payment is confirmed; the first completed checks establish a baseline. Coverage can be incomplete or delayed. Watch does not guarantee detection of every change, continuous availability, or instant incident alerts, and saved history is not a backup of your website.
Checkout and billing are handled by Stripe. For purchases identified at checkout as Sold through Link, Link acts as the merchant of record through Stripe Managed Payments, handling payment, applicable taxes, and transaction support. AboutUs provides the monitoring service. For payment support or a refund request for those purchases, see Link’s refund policy and request process. Eligibility depends on the circumstances and that policy; this is not a money-back guarantee. Nothing here limits refund or cancellation rights that apply by law.

We may contact businesses
As part of measuring whether companies respond to the people who contact them, we may send a genuine customer-style enquiry to a business we profile, from an ordinary address that does not identify AboutUs. We send one question and at most one follow-up, only to published business channels, and we stop immediately if asked. The full method is public at methodology/responsiveness, and any business can ask to be excluded.
Using the site
Read it, link to it, quote it. Please do not scrape it in a way that degrades it for other people, misrepresent our records as something they are not, or impersonate a domain owner when claiming a record. Claiming a record you do not control is the one thing here we treat as serious, because it corrupts the record for everyone.
Changes
If we change these terms materially we will update the date above and say what changed. 10 September 2026: added Watch pricing, recurring billing, cancellation, service limits, and payment-support information. 28 August 2026: added “Other people’s websites” — that a record is not a recommendation, and that your dealings with another site are between you and it. Questions: hello@aboutus.com.
