As reported elsewhere the 2009 Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale was a revelation from an Australian perspective. There were in excess of 40 mares sold to Australian interests for over US$7,500,000, an all time record. Admittedly the stars did align, the Aussie dollar was sensationally strong, the North American market was in a state of readjustment and our Melbourne Cup carnival didn’t clash with the sale.
