《天津日报》创刊于1949年1月17日，毛泽东主席曾两次为天津日报题写报头。历经半个世纪，《天津日报》在我国报业史上曾留下许多辉煌的业绩，率先由四版扩为八版，率先实行自办发行，第一家恢复工商广告等。近年来，天津日报坚持正确导向，探索大报风格，成为全国省级党委机关报改革的先锋，多次受到中宣部、新闻出版总署和天津市委的肯定，也深受广大读者欢迎。经过多年的发展，特别是近两三年来，津报集团在传媒实力、经济实力等方面形成了一定规模。 1999年8月，天津日报按照“以图片带版面，以版面带新闻，以新闻带记者，以记者带队伍”的思路，实施了报纸改版，推出10版新闻的全新版式。1999年10月2日《天津日报》对国庆大典的报道，用30个新闻版面展现了盛况，这天的报纸被中国历史博物馆收藏，同期一版获中国新闻一等奖。2000年1月，《每日新报》创办，当年最高发行量达到35万份，成为天津新闻战线的一支新生力量。2001年8月8日，《假日100天》创办，现在以橙色的风格、潮流的定位、时尚的品质牢牢占领了天津的周报市场。2002年5月8日改版复刊的《天津青年报》一炮打响，一上市发行
