The University of Sussex is a public research university based in Falmer, Brighton, UK, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across a broad range of disciplines. It was the first of the new wave of universities established in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in August 1961. In the 2009 Times Higher Education World Rankings, Sussex was placed in the top five per cent of universities worldwide.
