www.setters.org. There are several distinct breeds of setters. They are the English Setter, the Irish or red setter, the Gordon setter, and the Red and White setter. The Setters used to "set" when on point. They would drop or set when they came in contact with birds. The modern setter stands up on point. The setter often points with a high tail and front foot lifted and it's head pointed towards the game it scents. The setters are used primarily for hunting upland birds.
