Lunglei District is one of the 8 Districts in Mizoram. The Elementary Education was introduced towards the closed of the 19th Century. The First Elementary School was opened in 1903 at Serkawn by the Christian Missionary. Besides formal school, Non-formal school was also opened, by teaching reading and writing in Sunday. The Education was developed under the guidance of Missionaries and then to District Council in 1952, under Assam Government.
