After immigrating to United States in 1937, my grandparents, Rosel and Samuel Scheuer, decided to sell fine linens in customers' homes in the San Francisco Bay Area. My father, Fred, joined the business in 1946 and continued to build the business by making presentations in customers' homes from suitcases, also packed with samples from Europe. In 1953, our first stand-alone store opened on Stockton St., a few doors up from Union Square in downtown San Francisco.
