On November 17, 1978, Freddie and a workforce composed of brothers, cousins, and friends finished construction on an 1800-ft. wood framed building next to Freddie's mother's house. This, the original Pekar's Body shop, opened for business at 405 Correll Street in Wharton, Texas. Freddie managed the shop and employed several helpers. He did all the body work and painting himself. After seven years at the original location Freddie’s business outgrew his 1800-ft building.
