Jonestown Texas Jonestown Texas is located on FM 1431 in the north part of Travis County Texas, approximately twenty five miles Austin. Jonestown was founded in the late 1930s by the brothers, Warren and Emmet Jones, who envisioned a retirement community along the Lake Travis shores. Jonestown enjoyed its secluded and peaceful surroundings, but things changed for the community in the 1980s after Jonestown incorporate. Although many of the retired residents stayed, new younger residents were drawn to the area and the population grew.
Today Jonestown Texas still has a rural feel, with older homes, rolling tree studded hills meet the lake and the wildlife is abundant.
