BKWSU is a non-governmental organization in general consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), in consultative status with The United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF) and affiliated to the Department of Public Information (DPI). The Brahma Kumaris are also the recipient of seven UN Peace Messenger awards.
An outstanding feature of BKWSU can be seen in the university's administration, which is almost entirely female. The student body includes an equal number of male and female students.
