OMCC Move-In

Why?

To be prepared for the Aug 1-15 move-in date

Done when?

We have moved in and have something to sit on besides our asses

How Can I Help?

  • Purchase:
    • Some sort of rug or mat for desk chairs...we are sliding around too much!
    • Projectors and screens: Scott - Will purchase these when we can test them in new building - ProjectorPeople.com have a 7 day return policy
    • Couches: Wait
    • Table and chairs (eating): Isabel, Kasey, Scott - We've made about 2/3 of the purchase.
    • Cloth napkins- need to discuss?
    • Plants: Kasey
    • Vinh's suggestions: watering can for plants, drying rack for dishes, a pitcher for juice and sun tea.
    • Lateral File Cabinet for Karen, if some knows where to order please talk to me about size, etc. And we need to figure out where it goes. I'm thinking that maybe it can be in the main area instead of the smaller enclosed room. - Ray | talk

Actionable Tasks

Review all the projects on the CommunityProjects list, which include:
  • Last weeks completed projects
  • Projects waiting for something (e.g. dev work)
  • Suggested projects
Prioritize the projects for the next week
  • Decide if we'd like to keep working on the previous weeks uncompleted projects
  • Add new projects to the queue
Create actionable task cards which will complete the projects

I love the description of a project above, where new people can come to a place and get involved. And, I think our use of Meetings pages hinders that goal, currently. Here's a point of view:

  • Meetings are a means to an end, the advancement of a project.
  • Face to face meetings are only one way we communicate. We also use ad hoc IRC, ad hoc skype, scheduled skype, phone calls, etc.
  • If a meeting is about organizing a project, the outcome of that meeting is an enchanced project page, with more clear goals, more clear upcoming tasks, more clear "completed" tasks, more clear roles to be filled or that are filled, etc.
  • If the meeting is actually doing some work (parallel pairing, or some such), then work is actually getting done and the results of that work getting done can also appear on the project page.
  • If a meeting goes of into "Thoughts On" territory, that can be documented on a linked "Thoughts On ..." page, without cluttering up the project page.
  • There is not need for a specific "meeting" page for a particular meeting, unless there's a reason, for some reason. We don't need a page for every IRC interaction or skype phone call. It's just communication. The work is the work, and that's on the project pages.
