Sinthan Top
Sinthan Top, is one of the best accessible place in Jammu and Kashmir, most of the Tourist are not aware of this place and none of the tour companies recommend this highly recommendable place. This place is roughly about 130 kms from Srinagar or about 75 kms from Pahalgam. I had taken this picturesque drive from Pahalgam against wishes of my cabbie, who gave many reasons of not going there. Tourist will face such situation whenever they will seek out Sinthan top for the excursion.
I started from the Hotel in Pahalgam at 1100 for Sinthan top, though the advisable time to leave is 0900. But the excitement of exploring this place over took my emotions and believe me the winding roads running through the villages of interior Kashmir was giving me adrenaline rush. The highway took me into Anantnag-Achbal-Kokernag. The drive of 15 kms from Kokernag to Ducksum is worth gold with dense ducksum forest on one side and gushing waters of Breng Nallah on other.
From Ducksum, starts a steep drive of 25 kms, the winding roads add into the excitement. Ducksum is the last village on the stretch till Sinthan and you have replenish the exhausted stocks of food and water here. Once you are reloaded start your journey which will take you through dense forest with no man, only wilderness. You can hear sounds of nature which are so soothing to the ears. Be sure to carry heavy woollens and rain wears even in Summers as the area is prone to rainfall/snowfall, typically around afternoon. Do expect snow on both the sides of the drive once you start getting close to the top. Only vehicle that you come across the entire stretch are the BRO vehicles clearing the highway of Snow and ICE.
