Poets for Integrity
How often has the phrase, “struggling artist,” resonated in the mind of one who writes poems? It can be extremely difficult for poets to receive constructive feedback, and even harder for them to sell poems. Receiving instruction on how to improve one’s poetic writing skills is seldom readily available. But at poetsforintegrity.com all of those benefits are available for low monthly membership rate of $5, or an even lower annual rate of $38. Student memberships are only $19 per year. Memberships may be purchased with CCBill, Paypal, or by check or money order.
The premise of Poets for Integrity is that those who feel the need to write their thoughts in a poetic form need a forum where they can be encouraged and taught, where their works will be reasonably protected from theft, and where they are given opportunities to generate some income from their writing. Poets for Integrity is dedicated to preserving the craft of writing poems, and poetry as an art.
Members submit poems to the web site; these will be read by the international community of like-minded members. Interaction and fellowship is encouraged. Members vote on the quality of poems submitted in the various categories. Weekly and monthly winners are announced, and monetary prizes are awarded for various achievements such as “most improved,” or “most literary,” etc.
Several types of instructional materials may be purchased from the site. The catalog of workshops includes a series of interactive programs that can help one learn how to write better poems. Another offering called “Life’s Transitions” is more for helping people cope with the difficult changes in one’s life. Also, there is a series of “Personal Enrichment” workshops which can help one improve attitudes, self-image, and motivation.
Members include amateurs, published poets, and professionals. More experienced members offer personal guidance and advice to those who are just getting started. A goal of Poets for Integrity is to contribute to the “personal, spiritual, and artistic growth” of members. Poets for Integrity seeks to serve its community rather than exploit sensitive writers who are often somewhat vulnerable. In addition they support using poetry to increase world peace and the survival of the planet.
At the web site anyone may read short biographies of some of the most prestigious members. Several poems of each of these people may be read by the general public. These are presented in graphic format to reduce the ease with which they can be plagiarized.
Other membership benefits include help with grammar and structure, and improvement of general writing skills. Members will be given opportunities in interact with legitimate publishers and distributors. There is a link to a separate self-publishing house which serious poets may want to consider. All works remain the property of the author.
If all of this is not convincing enough, a 7-day free membership is available for those who wish to explore the member’s area more thoroughly. With a trial membership up to four poems a day may be submitted. Full member submissions are unlimited.
