A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is an address that points to where a website or file can be found on the Web.
At its simplest, a URL consists of:
- the protocol:
- http://www.example.com
- and
- the website's domain name:
- http://www.example.com
A URL can also include:
- a directory or directories:
- http://www.example.com/folder/file.txt
- and
- a file name:
- http://www.example.com/folder/file.txt
