Safe Driving
Improvements in technology have made cars smarter and safer, yet the number of road accidents continues to increase. Human errors cause more accidents than car failure, which is why most states now require defensive driving courses prior to licensing.
Some simple techniques and driver education can help reduce accidents and help people drive better and safer. Recognizing this, the state of Texas has approved defensive driving courses which teach driver safety and offer tips on how to be more cautious behind the wheel.
DefensiveDriving.com
DefensiveDriving.com offers courses designed to provide a review of traffic safety laws as well as mediate discussions on safe driving strategies. All of the courses have been approved by Texas courts for use in dismissing driving tickets. Another positive is that often these courses will lower insurance costs as much as 10%.
Courses
DefensiveDriving.com offers three different ways to take the defensive driving course:
All three courses cover the same information, but in different ways. The internet course has been rated as the #1 online course in Texas since 2000. It uses a combination of written information and clips from DefensiveDriving.com’s award-wining video, Wheels in Motion (awarded a Silver Plaque at the International Communications Film & Video Awards in 2004). This option has been optimized for low bandwidth connections, which makes it easier to complete the course for customers using dial-up.
The online video course option is offered for customers with a high speed internet connection. Customers avail this option by viewing high quality video streaming.

These two course options are always available online, which makes it easy to fit into any schedule. The course can be started immediately, and it is also possible to pause and restart at any time. These courses can be completed in as little as 6 hours, or as many as 90 days.
The third option is the, home-based DVD course. This course is taken by students who order the DVD set. The set is shipped home by DefensiveDriving.com. The time frame for completion of this course is the same as the internet and online video options. At the end of the course students are tested online or over the phone. All 3 course options are tested via the internet or over the phone.
DefensiveDriving.com also offers Teen Driver’s Ed course. The course has been approved for student drivers in the state of Texas by the Texas Department of Public Safety. This course is offered by DefensiveDriving.com through their partner, Virtual Drive. It offers everything the student driver needs in order to get a permit, license, and even car insurance discounts. The course combines the use of cutting edge instructional technology, interactive graphics, video, and animation to help make learning easy, fun, and memorable.
Results
A recent study done by a major Texas university showed that 99% of graduates from the Teen Driving course did not have an accident or receive a DUI during their first year of driving, 91% of graduates passed their learner’s permit exam on the first try, and 89% of graduates did not receive a speeding ticket during their first year of driving.
History
David Bruce came up with the idea for DefensiveDriving.com after being involved in a fender-bender in 1998. He needed to keep the traffic ticket off of his driving record, but his busy lifestyle made it hard for him to take a defensive driving course in the traditional classroom setting. Mr. Bruce worked with the Texas Education Agency for 18 months to establish the guidelines for an online course before gaining approval in December of 1999. In February 2000 the site was officially launched, and by the end of DefensiveDriving.com’s first full year, it had helped certify over 100,000 students.
