RuneScape is a Java-based MMORPG operated by Jagex Ltd. With over 9,000,000 active free players and more than 1,000,000 paying members, RuneScape is rated among the most popular online games in the world. RuneScape offers both free and subscription content and is designed to be accessible from any location with an Internet connection and to run in an ordinary web browser without straining system resources.
RuneScape takes place in the fantasy-themed realm of Gielinor, which is divided into several different kingdoms, regions, and areas. Players can travel throughout the gaming world on foot, by using magical teleportation spells or devices, or mechanical means of transportation. Each region offers different types of monsters, materials, and quests to challenge players.
Players are shown on the screen as customizable avatars. They set their own goals and objectives, deciding which of the available activities to pursue. There is no linear path that must be followed. Players can engage in combat with other players or with monsters, complete quests, or increase their experience in any of the available skills. Players interact with each other through trading,chatting, or playing combative or cooperative mini-games.
Andrew Gower created DeviousMUD, which was the forerunner to RuneScape, in 1998. On January 4, 2001, RuneScape was released to the public. Since its release, the game has been praised for its free-playing abilities and its availability on a web browser. As of December 2003, RuneScape has been rated as one of the fastest growing out of all of the MMORPGs.

- Extremely limited customer service.
- Accounts are easily hacked by those that have no computer experience whatsoever.

- Sure, it's fun at first. The heck; it gets old fast. Repetive clicking is the only way to describe it. You simple do a clicking sequence over and over again to "level" up your "skills." Once you lv. them up, you get access to newer clicking sequences! How exiting! Yeah... it isn't. For free players, the number of quests that're available to number around in the 30s. There're rarely any updates for free players. PvE involves clicking a monster. That's all. Ok, fine, so you click on some food once in awhile to heal yourself. Big fun... Trust me, this game might occupy you for maybe a few weeks, but, even then, you've earned nothing. The community is horrible, the graphics are horrible, the combat system is horrible, PvP is horrible, etc. etc, the list goes on. Don't waste your time on this.

- Just might be a waste of time. If you think about playing a video game, try other varities like MapleStory (Ever expanding MMORPG), Mabinogi (Unlike Runescape, it's less boring), World of Warcraft (Popular, but costly), Cabal Online (A total evolution and just released! Fresh content!), and other ones out there. RuneScape, DOWN. Others, maybe UP!
