There is an interesting anecdote behind the story of StateFarm.com. A successful farmer in Illinois, called George J. Mecherle, had to take up the job of selling insurance policies because of his wife’s health problems. Founded in 1922, State Farm Insurance was an auto insurance company, which was owned by the policyholders of the company.
