Description
Holliston was initially established in Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1997 to commercially exploit the almost 30 years of scientific and practical expertise of its founders, Dr. André Obenaus and Dr. Edward Kendall, in the use of non-invasive imaging technologies such as magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear magnetic resonance. Holliston subsequently opened an office in California in 2000 to meet the needs of its US-based clients.
Dr. Kendall and Dr. Obenaus foresaw that the expansion of non-invasive imaging for advanced clinical applications would be linked increasingly to the development of animal models for testing new methodologies and products prior to their introduction into the clinic. This pre-clinical imaging infrastructure, and the associated knowledge base, is currently poorly developed globally and Holliston sees this shortage of infrastructure as a potential impediment to the rapid deployment of non-invasive imaging for the diagnosis and monitoring of complex human diseases.
The major strengths of Holliston's founders and scientists are in the development and application of novel methodologies and animal models of human diseases for the resolution of complex research problems or the testing and evaluation of novel therapeutics aimed at diseases such as cancer and CNS disorders. This expertise has been configured into a wide range of NMR- and MRI-based services for clients in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries as well as government and universities. The company is now expanding this capability with the addition of microCT and microPET imaging for its clients.
