Title
SWAMPnet Home Page: Sustainable Washington Alliance Meeting Place
Description
The origins of SWAMPnet: The idea for an integrative Web site grew out of a series of informal meetings -- known as the "Eco Salon" -- among business, non-profit, and government professionals promoting sustainable development in their respective fields.
Impressed by the need for information about the myriad efforts already underway in the greater Washington region as well as the need for information about green resources and services, the group proposed building a Web site.
As the Salon grew, it adopted the name of the Sustainable Washington Alliance Mobilizing for Progress or "SWAMP" (now just "Sustainable Washington Alliance"). The origins of the District of Columbia are, after all, a swamp. If we are not careful, we could be one again!
