Recognizing Depression and Its Symptoms
Depression is one of the symptoms associated with a range of mood disorders including bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, and major depression. Many of these disorders also include other symptoms such as mania, anxiety, and, on the extreme end, psychosis.
Because depression is often used casually to describe sadness, recognizing true symptoms of depression is difficult. Only one of the many mood disorders, clinical depression affects 9.5 percent of adult Americans.
Depression is a condition that is one of the most misunderstood mood disorders. Symptoms range from persistent sadness to thoughts of suicide and death.
