I am interested in colour, rhythm, suggestion and ideas. I see movement in all things- even the static, since I imagine the energy expended in appearing static to be immense. Increasingly I am drawn toward a sense of the narrative and feel compelled to include symbols which have personal significance. Some of these symbols appear simply as shapes, as if some sort of visual code has registered and imprinted itself on a subconscious level. I think a lot about humans while I paint, perhaps because it is a uniquely human activity during which I access emotions which I am certain do not bother other creatures. I trust my creative responses, enjoy the process, and feel gratified when others are moved by my endeavor. Thank you for visiting.

Description

I studied Fine Art at the University of Victoria in British Columbia and Art and Education at the University of Calgary in Alberta. Still, as a painter, I feel largely self taught. I supported myself working in film and television, juxtaposed with a rural lifestyle in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia until 1996 when I "retired" in order to focus on painting. I then lived for two years in London, England, where I had the good fortune to meet senior British painter Guy Roddon, who invited me to draw and paint with him in the south of France. I returned to Vancouver B.C. and exhibited at the Deborah Worsfold Gallery for two more years before moving to Denman, one of the beautiful Gulf Islands on the west coast of Canada.

I now work from my home studio and have opened STOFER GALLERY. I have works in private collections in the U.K., France, Norway, Holland, Canada, and the U.S.A.
