Description
As a professional person who often travelled around the country, I often found myself in hotels in towns and cities where I knew nobody. Anybody who's been in that situation, and I know there are many of us, knows just how boring it can be to sit in a hotel bar staring into a glass, surrounded by people who are enjoying each other's company.
"If only I had some way of contacting others before I travelled", I thought. That way I could arrange to meet up with other company reps, or even locals, to enjoy a beer or two with.
Then, purely by chance, I visited a guy who lives no more than a couple of hundred yards from my own house. He'd advertised something for sale and I'd gone along to view it. Standing in his garden was a boat. "Get her on the water much?" I enquired, making small talk. "No, sadly not," he replied. "I'm a keen sea fisherman but now that I don't have anybody to fish with, it isn't as much fun".
