Unethical Advertising Practices
Cvent's record has been marred by its use of a technique known as "email harvesting," in which email addresses are copied from websites and online directories and then sent unsolicited commercial email (spam) advertising Cvent's services. This practice, which is illegal under the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003[1], 15 U.S.C. 7704(b), has resulted in several complaints[2] about Cvent's spam practices, including complaints filed with the Federal Trade Commission[3] and the Better Business Bureau.[4]
To date, no company spokesperson has been willing to respond to Cvent's use of spam email or its violations of federal law in doing so.
