| − | Octavia Estelle Butler (June 22, 1947 — February 24, 2006) was the author of the [[Earthseed]] series "The Parable of the Sower" and "The Parable of the Talents". These two books follow Lauren Olamina as she develops [[Earthseed]], a humanist religion dedicated to helping people help themselves. Lauren is a young African American women trying to incubate [[Earthseed]] in the midst of the chaos of a crumbling society. The two [[Earthseed]] "Parables" books inspired the creation of the real-world [[SolSeedMovement]].
