Description

In the wake of the 9/11 tragedy, Dawn M. Higgins, LCSW has become one of the leading experts in the field of grief and loss counseling. In addition to a private practice and the development of a grief and loss education and counseling center, Higgins has become one of the field’s most sought after speakers, specializing in topics such as Guidance Through Grief, Developing Healthy Relationships, Coping with the Aspects of Divorce, Grief and Loss in the Work Place and Grief and Loss after Brain Injury.

Perhaps her most important accomplishment has been the founding of Language of Loss, a grief and loss education and counseling center. Developed in the hope of helping people redefine life after a major loss, Higgins has counseled patients from all walks of life through Language of Loss.

Living and working in the Washington, DC area when the tragedy of 9/11 occurred, Dawn was called upon by the media as an expert on grief and loss. She appeared on NBC4's "Viewpoint" program with Joe Krebs. Debbi Jarvis and Pat Lawson Muse from NBC4 invited Dawn as a featured guest as part of their special reporting on the terrorist attacks. In addition, Adrienne T. Washington, writer for the Washington Times, quoted Dawn in the articles titled, "Therapist's words help cope with uncertain future" and "We're still grieving our loss of security in America."
