(Blake Hinkley, IsabelAnheier, Kasey Goltra, ChrisBabson, Vinh Nguyen, TakKendrick, Asma Khan, ScottKeeler)

Why we're doing this

  • To make the edit page immediately accessible for first time or new users
  • Increase the function of the page for advanced users
  • Increase diversity of editors

We know we are done when

  • We see a noticeable improvement in non-geek edits in recent changes
  • When experienced editors provide us with positive feedback.

Actionable Tasks

  • Rewrite, minimize, and move disclaimer text
  • Redesign edit buttons
  • Choose edit button set (possibly make user specific)

Dev Tasks

  • Make edit box drag and drop resizeable while in the edit window
  • Create drop down or auto-complete edit summary
  • Wiki syntax highlighting

Discussion

  • As, a particular user clicks the edit page for the "first" time :
  1. .(Copy-rights and wiki policy should create a little awareness
  2. .We should introduce a precise importance of "constructive_edits"), both in the form of an optional menu just the way the 'content' menu appears.
  • For the first time user,we can add a menu option of Help, which contains:
  1. .Cheat sheet option
  2. .Working with pictures
  • When we import data from M.S Word or any text editor,There should be an option in the menu bar to
  1. .import data
  2. .retain its original indentation.
  • The 'save page' ,'show preview' and 'show changes' can possess another option 'delete current changes' so that if the user has added new details which he doesn't want to save, this option can help.
  • Automatic Generation of a complete URL e.g if we type aboutus.org it should create [[1]]

Brief List of Changes

  • Change "Editing ---" to "You Are Editing ---"
  • Implement drop down cheat-sheet/help menu in place of buttons. If you want buttons you can click something in the drop-down that will take you to user-preferences where you can activate them. Also for buttons, we want to remove the "add media file" button, we also want the button not to insert formatting in the wiki edit tab until you begin typing, it should still add the tags to text that you have selected. The button will be pressed and then pressed again to turn it off.
  • Change text at bottom to the version above.
  • Change size of edit window in preferences
  • Change "Summary:" to "Summary of Changes:"
  • Remove "This is a minor edit"
  • Change "Don't automatically protect email addresses" to "Don't ProtectEmail"
  • Add "Cancel Edit" button to take you back to edit page in place of Cancel
  • Remove "Editing Help" (it will be in dropdown at top.
  • Make Templates Used into a dropdown with the templates used, possibly two columns.
  • Add GFDL and CCSA to the bottom bar.

discussion

We can make the disclaimer text precise like the following: As we are sharing our contents on AboutUs to benefit the commons, everyone should allow its usage anywhere and any how ,that falls under fair use and which is 'public domain'.

Secondly my question is : With out access to the page resource, how can i make the changes or proceed with any task? Asma Khan
