Welcome to the storyteller’s Bazaar. The original bazaar was in India and was the place where the best storytellers from near and far gathered to weave their tales to audiences that waited eagerly to be transported to far off places full of magic and mystery. Each story spun by the storyteller’s multi-coloured threads was aimed to thrill and amaze all who listened.
The storyteller’s bazaar still exists in what is now Pakistan and can be found in the city of Peshawar in the northern part of the country. If you go there today, no matter how hard you might search, you will not find a single teller (or seller) of tales. They have been replaced by cloth merchants, dry fruit sellers and traders selling the region’s famed green tea. The storytellers that flocked to this bazaar centuries before now only exist in our imaginations.
This storyteller’s bazaar welcomes you again and invites you to visit it stalls, sample its wares and prepare to be entertained and above all to have fun. Let your imagination run amock, let your muse grab you roughly by the neck and before you choke to death let’s write. Just for the fun of it. Just for the heck of it. Throw caution to the wind and jump in, the water is great. And when you grow weary have a rest and read what others have written. You will discover an optical feast and once you have had your fill, write some more.
Let’s reconjure the storyteller’s bazaar of old and use this site to write and read stories. But there is something really special about us. As a community we can build stories together. We all own them and we all contribute towards making them better. Hopefully we will be thrilled and amazed by stories that grow before our very eyes. The About Us storyteller’s community may produce a best selling novel in the not so distant future. Who knows what might happen. But there is only on way to find out.
To get you started I have divided up the storyteller’s bazaar into a number of different stalls. These stalls have a variety of things you could contribute to. You could do a little window-shopping first and browse through all the stalls and then choose a stall to return to or you could go directly to the one that sounds interesting to you. Once you have settled down on a beautiful Afghan carpet in one of the stalls with a nice glass of green tea, start reading or writing.
If you don’t find a stall you like, you could always create a new one. I’m sure other people will like it too.
