Title

Welcome to Boston Haitian Reporter Online

Description

The Boston Haitian Reporter, founded in May 2001, is New England's leading source for news about the region's growing Haitian-American communities. We are a monthly newspaper distributed free at more than 300 locations in and around Greater Boston. The Reporter is part of a family-run newspaper company, Boston Neighborhood News, Inc., which has been telling the stories of Boston's neighborhood people for more than 20 years.

The Boston Haitian Reporter is primarily an English language tabloid, with an editorial emphasis on the Haitian-American experience in Greater Boston and the United States. We employ professional journalists and Boston Haitian professionals to document the ongoing exploration of the Haitian American experience. Among the many talented journalists and writers who have contributed articles to the Reporter in the last year are: award-winning novelist and essayist Edwidge Danticat and Dr. Paul Farmer, director of Harvard University's Partners in Health program.

On a monthly basis, the Boston Haitian Reporter carries the voices of some of the diaspora's most prominent and thought-provoking leaders, including Professor Flore Zephir, author of a forthcoming book on Haitians in the United States; Brian Concannon, Jr., a longtime lawyer in Haiti and legal aide to President Jean-Bertrand Aristide; Boston native Caleb DesRosiers, now based in Washington D.C. On the local front, the Reporter is proud to have Boston's very own Steve Desrosiers as a contributing editor. Desrosiers is one of the nation's leading authorities on traditional Haitian music and culture. Joining him as a monthly commentator is Nekita Lamour, a longtime observer of the Boston Haitian community, who wrote regularly on religion, ties to the African diaspora and other cultural issues, with a special emphasis on women's issues; veteran educator Yolette Ibokette, who writes an insightful monthly column on items of particular interest to parents of Haitian American kids; Marie Ruth Auguste, also an educator, specializes in the continued celebration of Haitian food and culture, with an American twist.
