Balboa is a form of swing dance that gained popularity in the '30s and '40s. It is led with a full body connection and emphasizes subtle movements much like blues dancing, making it more appealing to dance than watch. While Balboa can and is danced to a variety of tempos, its basic is so small that it makes it a good dance for much faster tempos which may be suicide to Lindy Hop to for example. Also, because it is done in such a close embrace at all times Balboa is an ideal choice for a particularly crowded ballroom.
