The Continuum of Human Knowledge

Knowledge exists in individuals. And each of us possesses knowledge in a continuum from no knowledge to much knowledge. We think of this continuum as having two axis.
The first axis measures the volume of knowledge from that of an infant having no knowledge of the world to the an unlimited potential knowledge.
The second axis measures the breadth of knowledge from most of one's knowledge in a narrow field to being highly knowledgeable in many fields.
The significance of this fact is that all of us have the opportunity to grow in both the volume and breadth of our knowledge. And further, there is that knowledge with which we have personal experience - our expertise. For the rest of our understanding of the world we adopt a community belief - or the common knowledge. That knowledge tends to be self reinforcing as it is repeated from one person without personal experience to the next. By examining the validity of this common knowledge WE can take the next great leap in the evolution of human systems.
